Can a Yo-Yo Diet Stuff Up Your Metabolism

Greetings!

Here we are: right in the middle of the week! The weekend is just around the corner and, with it, the end of my holidays... Back to work next Tuesday, so, let's make the best out of what's left!

Today's posting is about a question that's been in the mind of many nutritionists: Does your metabolism stuff up when you do too much of a yo-yo diet?

Well, perhaps not in such un-scientific language, but you get the drift, don't you?

Just in case... a Yo-Yo diet is the pattern of losing weight (usually through restriction of certain foods), and then gaining it back again. Does that practice slow down your fat burning system (metabolism)?

An article I read recently claims that there is no proof that this is so. In other words, you can do as much yo-yo-ing (did I just invent a new term?), and your metabolism will be just fine.

But the article also points out that when you reduce your calorie and fat intake, your metabolism does slow down, as your body gets used to the new lower levels of calories and fat. That's why the last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose! Click here to check out the article (a new window opens).

The article has a small video clip that kinda reads out the written content whilst showing different people enjoying their junk food. hmmmm.... junk food.... mmmmmm ;-)

But seriously... that is why fad diets do not work. One has to change eating habits, rather than lose weight temporarely. And it is easy to change eating habits when you have deliciuos recipes to choose from... hint... hint...
